One of the most important ingredients for living a healthy, active life as people approach their retirement years is social relationships, say University of Windsor health experts who will be making a public presentation this week on aging and wellness.
“If I could only say one thing, it would be to focus on the relationships that have already been created in someone’s life and fostering those, as well as reaching out to create new relationships,” said Mike McMahon, fitness co-ordinator for the University of Windsor Lancers athletics and recreation. “Making sure that people do have those relationships forged prior to retirement is probably a great way to look at it. We prepare financially for retirement, so let’s spend the same amount of time preparing socially for retirement.”
The Healthy, Active Aging talk starts at 7 p.m., Nov. 1, in the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Human Kinetics building at 2555 College Ave.
