On Monday October 2nd, our Outreach Services had reason to celebrate!

Caesars Windsor announced a corporate gift of $20,000 to the United Way Windsor-Essex during the Cupcake Social at the Raymond DesMarais Manor in Windsor. Caesars Windsor HERO volunteers joined in the fun and decorated cupcakes with the seniors who regularly attend the programs offered by Life After Fifty. LAF's Outreach Services are funded by the United Way.

The Outreach Program is called "Promoting Seniors Independence".  Both Tahira and Meghan provide colaboative outreach services to seniors in Windsor-Essex with the aim to reduce and prevent:  social isolation, loss of support networks, physical mobility, and other health and mental health issues that seniors experience due to aging.  Workshops offer an array of fun and interesting educational, recreational, physical and social activities.

Outreach Program - Our West End

Our West End is a grassroots organization committed to making West Windsor a better place to live, work and play!

This initiative is funded through the United Way's Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy.

Life After Fifty is the host agency, and the Our West End (OWE) initiative is now officially a program of Life After Fifty. As a resident of Windsor's West End, LAF is proud to support the neighbourhood revitalization.

We are currently working on our official website and you can always follow some of the great work we are doing in the community on Twitter and Facebook!  Look for Open Streets, Farmers Market, Community Gardens and Mural Painting projects all helping to make the West End a better place to live, work, play and be a part of!

Singing our True Colours!

Singing our True Colours!
Posted October 10, 2017
On Friday September 29, our Life After Fifty Choir performed with the John Campbell PS during the celebration of the Windsor-Essex International Day of Older Persons.

What started out as a chilly new Fall day, turned quite warm with the sun shining on us.  The ceremony was MC'd by Larry Duffield of CARP Windsor.  In addition to our singing, we were entertained by the Diplomats Drum and Bugle team -  they looked marvelous too in their tuxedos with gold trim cummerbunds and flag dance team.   We were touched by the speeches from young people who spoke on the love and caring they have for their grandparents.

Following the ceremony we had a light lunch at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with the organizers, contributers, and audience.

A big thank you to CARP, The City of Windsor, Age Friendly Windsor and other organizations for bringing us together.

Our choir has a great time performing and we would like everyone to hear us sing!  Join us for our Fall concert on October 21 at 2:00 at our West Side Centre - tickets are only $15.

LAF Fundraiser a Success!

LAF Fundraiser a Success!

On August 11, we held a LAF Fundraiser at the Moose Lodge.  The entertainment was provided by Tributes for Charity, a talented group of local singers who help charities and not-for-profits raise funds for their organizations.

We had a sell-out crowd!  We had many positive comments about the generous meal provided by the Moose Lodge, including salad, penne, roast chicken and potatoes.  Cake followed with chocolate treats donated by Kensington Court Residence.

Dinner music was provided by the DJ and live singers - lots of talent in the room.  The evening show featured some great tunes and these local singers put on a show!  We were not disappointed with the vocal impressions like those of Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra,Carrie Underwood, and Elvis (he didnt want to stop singing as the crowd on the dance floor wanted more!).

We had various prizes in the evening.  The majority were generously donated by LAF members, Board Members, and staff. A special thanks for prize donations from the Moose Lodge, Amica Residences, Colonial Coffee and the Windsor Spitfires.
